Bill, I am also fascinated by the potential of tag clusters (<a href="http://del.icio.us/tag/tagclusters" rel="nofollow">tag clusters</a> which would work well with a bank of translations of specialist domain words.

Shirley, Just doing a little catching up.

1) I had to smile at your description of the words in translation. I am reminded of the story of the japanese translater, who seemed often to use too few words. Lke when the visiting dignitary told a joke. Translater spoke very briefly. Everyone laughed. On being asked "What did you say" the translater said:
"Sir has told a joke, will everyone please laugh" :-)

2) I have still been immersed in the Higher Ed question.
" . . . . and (we were) discussing the knotty issues of how to engage our colleagues and students". knotty indeed!
Something may emerge soon. The question of identity still interests me. I'm convinced there are people I work with who lecture in courses who do not see themselves as a teacher.
There is a related discussion in Scope this month:

My strategy is to sleep hard in the plane. I'm usually out even before we take off.

The one good thing about going away is that it forces me to get a whole load of things DONE which otherwise float loosely about. And what doesn't get done forces me into a zen-like acceptance.
